Plume of smoke ascends over Nottingham after fire breaks out

A fire has broken out in Nottingham city centre - with reports of explosions and a large smoke plume rising in the area.
The blaze, which began at approximately 11.30am, has prompted Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to receive numerous calls.
Emergency response
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service reassured residents, saying: “We’re currently in attendance at a fire on Curzon Street in the city centre.
"Our joint fire control are receiving a large number of calls about this incident but please rest assured we are aware of the incident.
"If you live nearby please keep your windows and doors closed as there is a large smoke plume.”
Nottinghamshire Police added: "Emergency Services are currently dealing with a fire in a derelict building on Curzon Street in Nottingham city centre.
"The incident happened at around 11.28am today (Sunday 31 May).
"Police and fire crews are currently at the scene, and a number of cordons will be in place around Huntingdon Street and Curzon Street."
Safety measures
Police are evaluating the evacuation of several nearby properties to ensure residents' safety, although there are currently no reported injuries.
They have asked people to avoid the area while emergency services manage the situation.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
