Leicestershire County Cricket Club has announced that Club Captain Peter Handscomb will not participate in the 2026 playing season due to family commitments.

Handscomb was scheduled to return to Uptonsteel Grace Road for the upcoming campaign, but has made the decision, alongside Director of Cricket Claude Henderson, that personal circumstances necessitate prioritising family at this time. Both the club and Handscomb have mutually agreed that this course of action is appropriate.

Continued leadership and future return

Despite Handscomb's absence from the field in 2026, Leicestershire CCC is pleased to confirm that he will continue to serve as Club Captain and has committed to extending his tenure with the Foxes into the 2027 season.

Director of Cricket Claude Henderson expressed the club's support for Handscomb's decision: “While we’re naturally disappointed that Pete cannot join us for the 2026 season, we fully support his decision to put his family first. We are thrilled that he will remain Club Captain and continue his journey with us into 2027.”

Handscomb added his gratitude and optimism for the future: “It’s difficult to miss the season, but family must take priority. I’m honoured to remain Club Captain and I’m excited to return in 2027. I’ll be following the lads closely and fully believe in what this group can achieve.”

Leicestershire CCC plans to communicate further updates regarding the 2026 squad and captaincy arrangements in due course.
