A teenager has been arrested after a man was attacked in Nottingham.

It happened in Old Market Square at around 11:15pm yesterday (4 May). A man in his 40s was found with facial and head injuries and taken to hospital, though his injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening.

An 18-year-old man is now being questioned on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm, making threats to kill, threatening behaviour, racially-aggravated harassment, and criminal damage.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers who attended the scene deserve credit for locating the victim and ensuring he quickly received the medical care he needed.

“They also worked efficiently to arrest a suspect and he remains in custody.

“It is not believed any weapons were involved but this was a violent incident and we will not tolerate this sort of behaviour.

“A cordon was in place while investigations were carried out.

“Despite the arrest our investigation remains ongoing and it is important anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any relevant footage, gets in touch without delay.

“The Old Market Square is likely to have been busy at the time and we believe there will be people who can help with our inquiries.”

Anyone who can assist is being asked to call 101, quoting incident 743 of 4 May 2026, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
