A man from Nottingham has been jailed for 16 months after beating a woman in an unprovoked attack.

Clifton Patterson, 67, punched, kicked, and strangled the woman in his home in Hyson Green on 9 June 2025.

He attacked her as she lay in bed in the address on Biko Square before she was able to get out and call for help.

Patterson was arrested and taken into custody where he gave no-comment answers in interviews.

He later pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation and assault causing actual bodily harm.

PC Kai Monachello, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an extremely violent and wholly unprovoked attack that understandably left an innocent victim in fear of her life.

“She was unable to defend herself against someone far bigger and stronger than her, and was fortunate to avoid more serious injury, given the manner of the assault

“I am extremely pleased Patterson has now been jailed, this case serves as a strong warning to others about the serious consequences of violence against women and girls.

“I would like to commend the bravery the victim has demonstrated by standing up to domestic abuse and making her report."

Patterson was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on 23 April.
