Residents in North West Leicestershire are facing ongoing issues with missed bin collections due to a combination of vehicle breakdowns, staff sickness, and the persistent heatwave, impacting hundreds of homes across the district.

Since the start of last month, North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC) has grappled with these problems, leading to missed black, recycling, and garden waste bin collections in over 200 streets since 24th July.

The council is attempting to address the backlog by either collecting bins the subsequent day or two after scheduled collections. These efforts are complicated by the conditions experienced since the heatwave earlier in July.

Recent disruptions have affected large areas, including Castle Donington, Coleorton, Ashby, and several other communities, with site-specific breakdowns and increased staff absences exacerbating the challenges.

NWLDC acknowledged the significant obstacles in recovering services, emphasizing the crews' dedication to normalizing collections despite the numerous difficulties.

The LDRS sought clarification from the council regarding the duration of these issues and measures employed to prevent further disruptions, but an official response was unavailable at the time of reporting.

Residents are assured that efforts are underway to restore regular waste collection services, with transparent communications likely as solutions progress.
