Aiden Tyler sentenced for brutal assault in front of witnesses
A man has been sentenced to nine years and six months in prison after a brutal attack on an unconscious man in Mansfield Market Place.
The assault occurred near the Bentinck Memorial shortly before 4.45 pm on 31st December 2025.
25-year-old Aiden Tyler repeatedly punched and kicked his 35-year-old victim in front of multiple onlookers.
The victim, who was left defenceless on the floor, suffered serious head injuries but has since been released from the hospital.
Earlier on the same day, Tyler had punched another man in the face on Lord Street and had threatened customers in a pub.
Following his arrest at the Market Place, Tyler was charged with attempted murder but later pleaded guilty to wounding with intent.
He also admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray related to his earlier actions.
Detective Constable Amelia Hicklin of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the severity of Tyler's violent behaviour, noting the danger he posed to the public.
"This was a savage and sustained display of violence carried out in full view of multiple members of the public," she said.
"Tyler would have known his victim was unconscious but continued to rain down blow after blow to his head.
"He is a violent thug with a history of violence and can count himself lucky that his victim wasn't more seriously hurt.
"I am pleased he has now been given this extended sentence and that he can pose no further threat to the public."
Tyler was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on 25th August.
