A man has been arrested after a pensioner was killed in Derbyshire.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a pensioner was stabbed in Derbyshire.

The 72-year-old woman was found injured in a property in The Crest, Linton, Swadlincote, just after 2:30pm yesterday (21 June).

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Tony Owen, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), who is leading the investigation, said: “Members of the public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area whilst we carry out our enquiries.

“We are aware that this may cause some concern in the community but I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident.

“If you have any concerns or would like to pass on any information, please feel free to approach officers.”

A statement on Derbyshire Police website said: "As part of our investigation, we are appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who has CCTV, Ring doorbell, or dashcam footage that covers The Crest between 12.01am on Saturday (20 June) and 3pm on Sunday (21 June).

"A Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) has been set up where members of the public can send us information directly via this link – https://mipp.police.uk/operation/33EM25A83-PO1."
