Man arrested after Amazon van theft in Nottingham
Police say a 42-year-old has been detained as their investigations continue
Nottinghamshire Police have detained a 42-year-old man in connection with the theft of an Amazon delivery driver's van.
The incident took place in Carlton, Nottingham, when the driver parked the vehicle on Cavendish Road to deliver a parcel at about 5.40pm on Sunday, 21st June.
Upon returning, the driver saw the van being driven away and promptly contacted the police.
Officers found the van parked off Thackeray's Lane, Woodthorpe, just after 6pm.
A man seen fleeing the location on police arrival was apprehended, carrying a packet of biscuits reportedly taken from the van.
Additionally, police recovered the vehicle keys and a self-heating lunch box belonging to the driver.
'The victim was simply doing his job'
Police Constable James Roberts, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The victim was simply doing his job when the van he relies upon was stolen.
"Officers alerted to the theft worked quickly to trace the van and recover items from it, as well as detain a suspect.
"We would urge delivery drivers, and other motorists, to take every possible precaution to avoid becoming the victim of opportunistic criminals.
"Locking vehicles and turning off engines only takes a second but prevents desperate offenders taking advantage.
"Despite the arrest, our investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information, or relevant mobile phone, dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage, should get in touch."
