A teenager has been charged after police seized a knife in Nottingham City Centre.

Police were called to reports a man had been seen carrying a large knife in his back pocket in Old Market Square.

A suspect was arrested minutes later at a bus stop on Upper Parliament Street on Wednesday afternoon at 3:47pm.

A 17-year-old has been charged with possession of a knife blade in a public place.

He cannot be named because of his age and is due in Nottingham Magistrates Court on April 20th 2026.

Chief Inspector Kylie Davies, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“City centre officers are here for you 24 hours a day, and ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

“If you see anything suspicious or are concerned about crime, speak to them and they will help you.

“In this case, we’d like to thank the member of the public who alerted our officers to this matter so that swift action could be taken.

“We will not tolerate those who put themselves and others at risk by carrying weapons, as demonstrated by this arrest.”
