Man jailed for daylight knife attack in Ilkeston
Luke Hurdowar sentenced for attacking man with zombie knife
A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after stabbing a person with a zombie knife on Cotmanhay Road, Ilkeston.
Luke Hurdowar carried out the attack just after noon on 26th June this year, targeting a man he knew.
The confrontation began with an argument, escalating when the victim threw punches at Hurdowar.
In response, Hurdowar withdrew a 30cm zombie knife from his waistband and stabbed the victim twice.
Afterwards, the victim was left bleeding heavily on the pavement, while Hurdowar fled the scene by car.
The injured man needed hospital treatment.
Later, Hurdowar was spotted travelling nearby but attempted to evade officers before being caught and arrested with assistance from PD Ultor and his handler.
Charged and remanded the next day, Hurdowar, who has no fixed address, admitted to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article.
Derby Crown Court sentenced him to three years and nine months in prison on 2nd September.
Detective Constable Danielle Causer commented:
“This was a brazen attack on a summer afternoon which posed a potential danger to the public, including children.
“No one should fear for safety while walking on streets with their loved ones.
“Hurdowar's actions displayed complete disregard for public safety.
“The intervention of bystanders assisting the victim prevented a potentially worse outcome.
“We remain committed to reducing knife crime and addressing those who choose to carry weapons.”
