A man who kicked a friend's head "like a football" in Nottinghamshire has been jailed for three years and one month.

25 year old Padley Dempsey, of Smithy Carr Avenue, Sheffield, attacked his victim shortly after an argument at a social club in Worksop, at around 6:30pm on March 1.

Dempsey chased his friend down the street and kicked out his les, before repeatedly kicking and punching him until he lost consciousness.

The assault only stopped after a member of the public stepped in.

Around a month later, on April 4, Dempsey assaulted his then girlfriend - dragging her and stomping on her dead.

The 25 year old admitted two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Nottingham Crown Court.

Sergeant Ashley Taylor, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Both of these attacks were vicious and unprovoked and left the victims with visible injuries.

"Keeping our communities safe, especially women and girls, is always a top priority for the force.

"We hope this sentence offers some comfort to the victims, and we'd also like to thank the members of the public who stepped in to help on both occasions."
