Ex-Derbyshire policeman accused of trying to form ‘improper’ relationships with eight women
Tarjinderjit Nizzer faces charges after allegedly targeting colleagues and a domestic abuse victim while serving as an officer
A former police sergeant has appeared in court charged with misconduct after allegedly seeking “improper sexual or emotional” relationships with eight women, including two colleagues and a domestic abuse victim.
Tarjinderjit Nizzer, who resigned as a Neighbourhood Sergeant with Derbyshire Police in February this year, faces eight counts of misconduct in public office following an investigation by counter-corruption officers.
Prosecutors allege the 57-year-old, who lives in Derby, committed the offences while serving as an officer between January 2020 and November 2024 against eight women, including a complainant who is alleged in the formal indictment to have been asked for “selfies of her bottom”.
Nizzer spoke to confirm his personal details during a brief appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday, was not asked to enter any plea, and was ordered to appear before a Crown Court judge on October 30.
He also faces one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice by cancelling a traffic offence report, along with a charge of computer misuse.
The formal charges allege that the former officer messaged a colleague while she was on holiday, made inappropriate sexual comments to her, and repeatedly asked her to meet him at the gym or to go for a coffee “for the purpose of pursuing an improper sexual or emotional relationship”.
It is also alleged that Nizzer sent unsolicited emails to another officer, arranged to meet her under false pretences and made unwanted advances towards her.
Informing Nizzer that he will have an opportunity to enter pleas at a hearing later this month, District Judge Sunil Khanna said: “As you are aware, nine of the charges you face are charges that can only be heard at the Crown Court.
“Your tenth charge is sufficiently connected to the others so I am sending all of your charges to Nottingham Crown Court.
“Between now and then I am going to grant you unconditional bail.”
