Emergency services responded to Jesse Gray Primary School yesterday after a group of Year 6 pupils consumed seeds found on the school premises.

The seeds prompted action from emergency services with nine pupils transported to Queen’s Medical Centre for further examination.

After being monitored for several hours, all nine children were discharged without any adverse effects and returned to school today.

Following the incident, the play area remains off-limits.

A professional inspection by the school's ground maintenance team resulted in plans to remove a handful of trees from the area.

In an assembly held this morning, the importance of safe play and the potential dangers of consuming seeds and berries from trees and shrubs were reinforced.

A commendation was extended to the Jesse Gray staff for their quick actions and to the emergency services for their effective response.
