Derbyshire community rallies for mum-of-five with brain cancer at charity football match

Event aims to support Bryony Hill and raise funds for alternative treatments

A heartfelt community effort in Derbyshire is underway to support Bryony Hill, a mother of five diagnosed with an incurable Grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour, just days before turning 40.

Bryony is currently undergoing intensive radiotherapy, with hopes of slowing the tumour’s growth to qualify for chemotherapy. Her family is also exploring alternative treatments abroad to prolong their time together.

In solidarity, Derbyshire United – Football For Good is organizing a charity football match and family fun day on 16th August at South Normanton Athletic Football Club, aiming to rally support and fundraise for Bryony’s treatment.

Beginning at 1pm, the event features a 3pm kickoff, raffle prizes, tombola, food, a licensed bar, children's activities, and a friendly match between Derbyshire United Blues and Red Shorts.

Jonathon Ball of Derbyshire United emphasized community presence over monetary donations, aiming to demonstrate unwavering support for Bryony and her family.

"Our biggest goal is that Bryony walks through those gates and sees a football ground full of people who have turned up simply because they care. We want her children to see her to."

Derbyshire United – Football For Good has successfully raised funds through past events, and this initiative aims to do the same while creating a memorable day of community solidarity.

All are welcome to attend the event to show support and unity for Bryony’s journey.
