Derby carer jailed for stealing thousands from those she supported
Rebecca Williams admitted to taking over £55,000 from service users.
A woman who defrauded two service users of thousands of pounds while working as their carer has been jailed.
Rebecca Williams, 42, was a manager at a company providing supported housing in Derby and other locations across the UK.
Concerns about financial misconduct arose in August 2024, leading to an investigation that uncovered Williams' misuse of the bank cards belonging to two service users.
Williams withdrew substantial sums of money from the victims' accounts and kept the funds for herself.
Records she completed did not match the actual amounts withdrawn from the accounts, with transactions for one victim completely unlisted.
In total, she stole £18,462.45 from one victim and £37,027.10 from the second.
During the interview, Williams acknowledged completing the financial forms but could not explain the discrepancies.
She faced two charges of fraud by abuse of position, to which she pleaded guilty.
On 25th September, Williams, of Nerissa Close, Derby, was sentenced to 20 months in prison.
Detective Constable Calum Marrows, who led the investigation, said: "Williams was employed to help support these women yet instead used her position to take advantage of them and steal their money.
"This was a callous and calculated breach of trust by Williams who should have been someone these women could rely on to help," Marrows continued.
He added, "I have no doubt her actions have had an enormous impact on both victims and will continue to do so into the future, so I hope that her guilty pleas and subsequent prison sentence will bring them some comfort."
