Investigation finds Ilkeston derelict building fire likely to be deliberate
Investigators think it was caused by a naked flame
Authorities have determined a fire at a derelict building on Heanor Road in Ilkeston was likely started deliberately.
Derbyshire firefighters responded to the blaze at 04:46 on 10th June after receiving an emergency call.
Fire crews from Ilkeston, Ascot Drive, Long Eaton, and Chapel-en-le-Frith were joined by teams from Nottinghamshire’s Eastwood, Stockhill, and Stapleford stations.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames engulfing the building’s fourth floor and roof space.
Structural safety concerns delayed entry, prompting crews to use hose reels and main line jets supported by an aerial ladder platform to control and extinguish the fire.
Once deemed safe, a thorough search confirmed the building was unoccupied at the time.
The fire caused extensive damage to the roof and upper floors.
Investigators suspect the blaze originated from a naked flame interacting with combustible materials.
Derbyshire Constabulary is calling for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
