Witness appeal after suspected arson in Sherborne
Police investigate deliberately set fire affecting car and nearby property
Detectives in Sherborne are seeking information following a suspected arson incident in South Avenue.
Dorset Police received the initial report from the fire service at 11.20pm on Thursday 9th April 2026 about a car fire.
The flames spread to a nearby property and fences.
One person affected by smoke inhalation was taken to hospital.
Authorities believe the fire was set deliberately and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant information.
Detective Inspector Rich Barnett from Dorset County CID said: “I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around the relevant time and would also ask residents in the vicinity of South Avenue and Lenthay Road to please review any home CCTV or doorbell camera footage from around 9.10pm to 11.20pm on Thursday 9 April 2026.
“From our enquiries we also believe a male suspect from the scene may have sustained superficial injuries from the fire. I would urge anyone who has concerns around a man who has sustained suspected burn injuries in unexplained circumstances to please get in touch."
Local patrols have been increased post-incident, allowing community members to engage directly with officers regarding information or concerns.
