Weymouth's golden sands are being closed off to the public next week.

The beach is being shut between the Pavilion Theatre and the Jubilee Clock from Monday to Thursday (10th to 13th February).

It's to allow for annual work to take place on levelling out the sand that gets moved around over winter - due to bad weather and high tides.

Entry and exit points from the beach will be barriered off by Weymouth Town Council to protect members of the public, while heavy machinery is in operation on the beach.

Chair of the Environment and Services Committee, Cllr Matt Bell said:

“The annual work is scheduled for February to help to get the beach level ahead of the town’s busy season. Over the winter, bad weather and high tides move the sand around, so this vital work helps the beach recover and ensure it is ready for the arrival of seasonal tenants, including the kiosks, attraction sites and heritage attractions.”

Signs about the closure are being put up at access points along the beach.

The Town Council's apologised for any inconvenience while the work is carried out.
