Weymouth ‘strip club’, Wiggle, is to fight off an objection to retain its legal right to operate.

The club, just one block from the seafront, has been registered as a sex establishment since 2011 with an annual review of its licence.

At Dorset Council's licensing panel meeting next Monday (13th January), a lone objector will argue that the club should not continue.

Although the objector’s name has been redacted from official documents the grounds for asking councillors to reject the licence are nearly identical to a plea made at the last renewal.

That included the site's proximity to the seafront and that women might feel uncomfortable walking past.

Neither Dorset Police, Dorset Council or any other statutory consultee have objected to a renewal of the licence for the New Street premises.

Directors from the Wellhot Ltd company said they could prove the establishment had been run correctly, within the rules, since it came under their ownership in 2017 and that a licence renewal had never been refused.

General manager Mr Taran Ojla said the company employs 200 performers and 50 other staff across their five sites, which include Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Southampton.

Mr Jaspal Singh Ojla said all the clubs were well regulated, had security staff in place and used extensive CCTV coverage to ensure customers complied with all the rules, including not touching and not approaching any of the performers.
