Volunteer lifeboat crew successfully rescues stranded swimmer at Durdle Door
RNLI attends to hypothermic casualty cut off by tide
Weymouth's RNLI Inshore Lifeboat (ILB) crew executed a swift and successful rescue operation after a 25-year-old man became stranded on rocks near Durdle Door due to the rising tide.
The lifeboat was launched at 17:28 hrs following reports of the stranded swimmer who, after navigating along the coastline, found himself unable to return due to the incoming tide, risking hypothermia and minor injuries in the process.
Upon arrival, the volunteer crew promptly aided the casualty, ensuring his safe transport to Lulworth, where HM Coastguard assumed care. The lifeboat crew returned to station at 19:00 hrs after completing the mission.
This incident serves as a vital reminder of the rapid tidal changes along Dorset's coastline, which can unexpectedly cut off escape paths. Visitors are urged to check tide times before exploring to prevent potential dangers near cliffs and rocks.
The lifeboat rescue reflects coordinated teamwork, with gratitude extended to the dedicated volunteer crew and responders involved in the operation.
