Weymouth businesses rally round after 'devastating' restaurant fire

Weymouth business owners have pulled together to show their support for a much-loved restaurant that went up in flames over the weekend.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said it was called to the Dorset Burger Company building on King Street in Weymouth at around 7.40am on Saturday (4th January).

Owners of a restaurant, Emma Cogan and Ross Kay, said they were “devastated” when they arrived on the scene,

At the height of the incident, approximately 60 firefighters were on the scene and around 25 people were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Now hundreds of people and businesses have rallied behind via the restaurants Facebook page to show their support.

Restaurant Les Enfants Terribles said: “I hope the damages are fixable and that you will be back and running in no time. Please do let us know if there is anything we can do to help.”

The Palm House Café messaged: “Wishing you a speedy re-opening and returning better than ever”

Mumma Bees Café replied: “I hope you are all ok, but if there is anything we can do to help you get back on your feet, let us know.”

Marlboro Restaurant added: “Our thoughts are with you Emma, Ross and all your team, so pleased no one was hurt and all safe.”

The DWFRS spokesperson said crews from Weymouth, Dorchester, Portland, Bere Regis, Maiden Newton, Wareham, Bridport, Charmouth and Yeovil were in attendance.

Ms Cogan and Dr Kay thanked people for their messages and said the emergency services had been "brilliant".
