A lifeboat crew from Poole was called out after a kite surfer was spotted in trouble between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier.

It happened on Saturday afternoon, with crews searching choppy seas after reports from someone at the East Overcliff zigzag.

Teams from Poole and Southbourne Coastguard scoured the shore but nothing unusual was found - and the lifeboat was back ready for service later that afternoon.

Sharing details of the incident, RNLI Poole's Lifeboat Station said: "Poole lifeboat was requested to launch by UK Coastguard at 2pm on Saturday (December 20th) to a report of a Kite Surfer in difficulty between Bournemouth and Boscombe Pier.

"The lifeboat headed out of the harbour and arrived on scene to carry out an extensive search of the area from the first informant’s information, who had been at the East Overcliff zigzag, conditions were choppy, with a south easterly wind F4-5.

"Poole Coastguard Rescue Team and Southbourne Coastguard were also on scene on the shore.

"After a complete saturation of the area, where nothing untoward was found, the lifeboat crew was stood down with thanks and returned to station.

"After refuelling and wash down the lifeboat was ready for service by 4.30pm.

"This was the 122nd call out for the Poole lifeboat volunteers."
