An investigation is underway after several birds were stolen during a burglary in North Dorset.

Between 11pm on Saturday 21 March and 7am on Sunday 22 March 2026 an outdoor aviary was broken into at a residential address in the area of Underdown Hollow in Bradford Abbas.

According to police 12 northern goldfinches and four pairs of canaries were stolen during the incident.

Police Constable Sebastian Haggett, of Dorset Police’s Rural Crime Team, said: “We are carrying out a full investigation into this incident and I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area during the relevant time period.

“I would also urge residents in the vicinity with home CCTV or doorbell cameras to please review their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.

“Finally, if you have information as to where the stolen birds are, please come forward so we can reunite them with their owner.”

Anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity is being urged to contact Dorset Police.
