An eight year old boy is in hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after a crash in Bournemouth.

It happened on Holdenhurst Road on Monday (22nd September) morning, with police saying the driver of a white BMW reportedly didn't stop at the scene.

A 36-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman from Reading have been arrested on suspicion of driving offences and released on bail while investigations continue.

A Dorset police spokesperson said: "At 11.38am on Monday 22 September 2025 we received a report of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a car in Holdenhurst Road in Bournemouth.

"It is reported that the driver of the car – a white BMW 118 series – failed to stop at the scene.

"Officers attended and a road closure and police cordon were put in place to allow emergency services to safely deal with the incident and for investigative work to be carried out.

"The pedestrian – an 8-year-old boy – was taken to hospital, where he currently resides, for treatment to injuries which are potentially life-changing. His family were informed."
