A former Dorset Police officer has been jailed for eight months, after he admitted an intentional strangulation incident in Weymouth.

30 year old Tyler McWalter, has been sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 23rd May).

The incident happened outside Kika Beach on The Esplanade in Weymouth in September last year - when a man was pulled to the ground by McWalter, with his arm around the victim's neck.

McWalter was a serving PC at the time, but was not on duty when the offence occurred.

Earlier this week, he was subject to a misconduct hearing at Dorset Police, which found him guilty of gross misconduct and dismissed him from the force without notice.

Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell said: “We will continue to take robust action against officers whose behaviour falls below the high standards we expect of them, whether that is on or off duty.

“We will ensure they are held accountable for their actions through misconduct proceedings led by our Professional Standards Department, as well as conducting a thorough criminal investigation where appropriate.”
