More than 300 Year 8 and Year 9 students from Dorset participated in an innovative skills festival aimed at providing insight into careers in military, security, and cyber industries.

The event was held at The BattleLab in Dorset Innovation Park and involved interactive challenges led by local employers, colleges, and universities.

Councillor Richard Biggs emphasised the importance of such events for developing a skilled workforce and raising awareness about various career paths in these sectors.

He said, "Events like this are essential if we want to build the skilled workforce Dorset's employers will need in the future. Many young people, parents and teachers simply aren't aware of the breadth of careers available across the military, security and cyber sectors."

Dorset Careers Hub Lead, Jan Champney, highlighted the festival's role in connecting students with employers and giving them a first-hand experience of specialist working environments.

Organisations such as SW Cyber Prevent, CybExer (UK), Yeovil College, and the British Army supported the festival, while Dorset Careers Hub continues to encourage businesses to engage with young people through various educational activities.

Interested employers can register their involvement through the Dorset Careers Hub website.
