Dorset County Hospital's Stroke Unit has benefitted from a £10,000 donation made by the Former Dorchester Social Stroke Club.

The donation has helped fund new artwork depicting famed Dorset landscapes and landmarks, providing a familiar and welcoming environment for patients, which can aid in their recovery.

Local artists, including Anna Crennell, collaborated to create the murals and imagery, helping patients reconnect with areas they may recognise from their daily lives.

Alongside the artwork, remaining funds supported the Unit's gardening group, allowing for the purchase of equipment and the organisation of activities tailored to patient recovery.

Former Dorchester Social Stroke Club members visited to see the transformation, reflecting how the project's success continues their legacy.

Jackie Sherfield, who founded the club, expressed the group's pride in their efforts, highlighting the importance of creating a welcoming space for patients' well-being.

Jennifer Hodge, Stroke Unit Matron at Dorset County Hospital, explained how the new environment benefits cognitive rehabilitation by sparking recognition and recovery among patients.

The donation was praised by Simon Pearson, Head of Dorset County Hospital Charity, as a prime example of community generosity enhancing patient experiences.

Dorset County Hospital Charity is celebrating its 30th anniversary, raising funds for resources beyond the NHS budget to ensure the highest care standards.
