Thousands of pounds to be spent cleaning St George's Cross from Dorset roundabouts
Dorset Council have estimated that the cost will likely exceed £3,500
Cleaning paint from Dorset roundabouts is likely to cost in the region of £3,500 – so far.
Dorset Council say 17 roundabouts have been identified for cleaning, with work having already taken place on some of them.
The figures come from the authority after a spate of incidents mainly where red paint has been daubed onto mini roundabouts.
Said a Dorset Council spokesperson: “To reduce costs and improve efficiency, we are incorporating the cleaning of roundabouts into our general work programme. Across the County, 17 roundabouts have been identified for cleaning, and work has already commenced on several of these.
“The primary costs involved relate to traffic management and the removal of paint, which is estimated to be around £200 per roundabout, depending on the difficulty of removing the paint.”
The council says it will also be removing flag attached to posts, poles and lampposts but is not putting a cost of these works.
Said the spokesperson: “It is important to note that defacing road markings is an offence under the Highways Act 1980. Such actions can compromise visibility, distract drivers, and increase the risk of accidents for both road users and pedestrians.”
