Staff at a care home in Dorchester have thanked the community for their support, after a fire broke on Saturday night (18th January).

Eleven residents were evacuated from Grassington House on Prince of Wales Road.

They're now being cared for at two other homes in Dorchester, with staff stepping in to help look after them in unfamiliar surroundings.

Staff say they're 'absolutely devastated' by the blaze that broke out in the roof space, but did manage to salvaged people's personal items.

They've posted on social media to thank local people for their help:

Grassington House has also promised to rebuild and get residents back home as soon as they can.

Their post concluded by saying:

"As for the Home itself, it’s looking very sad, but we’ve done it once before, so we will do it again, and with the help of our magnificent staff make it the Home that everyone loves once again!"

An initial investigation by firefighters has found the incident was accidental, due to a fault in a double wall socket.

Crews from ten Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue stations tackle the blaze, with support from the Devon & Somerset brigade too.

Around 50 firefighters were in attendance at its height.
