Bridport carer jailed for sexually assaulting woman in her 80s
37 year old Angelo Regis was meant to be looking after the victim
A carer from Bridport has been jailed for 12 years - for the sexual assault of a woman in her 80s in her own home.
37 year old Angelo Regis admitted attempted rape, sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by touching - and been sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court today (Friday 31st January).
Regis has also been placed on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.
What happened?
The defendant was working as a care assistant, when he visited the victim's home in June 2024.
When she went to the bathroom, he locked the front door before following her and sexually assaulting her in the bathroom and bedroom.
Regis was arrested two days later and initially denied the offences in a police interview, but detectives then obtained DNA evidence linking him to the incidents.
Detective Constable Lucy Johnson, of Dorset Police County Safeguarding Hub, said:
“I want to thank the victim for her support during this investigation and praise her for the strength she has shown in coming forward and reporting this matter.
“Angelo Regis took advantage of his position and the vulnerabilities of his victim to subject her to a truly terrifying and horrific sexual assault.
“I hope this case demonstrates that we will do all we can to investigate offences of this nature and hold offenders accountable for their actions and that we will ensure victims are fully supported throughout.
“I also want to thank the Crown Prosecution Service and partner agencies for their continued support during the police Investigation and prosecution."
