Campaigners say it's taking too long to spend £90,000 on upgrading one of Exeter's busiest roundabouts - something dubbed locally as 'Stoke Hell Roundabout'.

The roundabout links five often busy roads, with users saying they feel intimidated and can be shouted at - with some only crossing in groups over safety concerns.

According to Cycle streets, there were ten collisions directly on the roundabout in the past decade.

Mark Allen who has lived in Pennsylvania for over ten years and negotiates the roundabout three or four times a week, says money from developers has been pledged but designs are still to be agreed.

He said: "This money comes from a Section 106 Agreement from the Exmouth Junction housing development near Morrisons and includes £63,750 for the E4 cycleway and £25,000 for Traffic Regulation Orders: £88,750 in total.

"This development will increase motor traffic in the area, increasing the need for urgent action."

In response to a previous demo, aspokesperson for Devon County Council recentlyissued a statement. Following the latest demo, the council said: "We understand the concerns raised about safety at Stoke Hill roundabout and wish to reassure the community that improving the junction remains a high priority.

"The project is currently in the early stages of concept design, with potential options being developed and tested against current and future traffic flows. Funding has been allocated to progress the design work, and funding for construction has been recommended for approval by the Combined County Authority (CCA) Board.

"As the work is still at an early stage, we’re not yet able to confirm timescales. However, design work is continuing at pace to ensure the most effective solution is identified and developed."
