A first-of-its kind Dental Education Practice has opened in Plymouth - with treatment and advice being carried out by final year dental students .

The £5 million facility on New George Street will deliver urgent and routine dental care for people in Plymouth and the surrounding areas –providing an extra 7,200 emergency NHS dental appointments a year.

A spokesperson for the University of Plymouth said: "The practice will offer urgent care in line with the Government’s plan for neighbourhood health services, prioritising care for patients in pain, suffering from infections or needing urgent dental care."

It is run by the University of Plymouth via its subsidiary, Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise.

Patients can access appointments by calling 111 . The clinic does not accept walk ins or people calling directly – they have to be referred through the NHS helpline.
