The Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning for South West England, with icy patches expected overnight going into Wednesday morning.

The warning is valid from 00:00 until 10:00 on Wednesday 7th January.

Clear skies following wet weather could lead to icy patches forming on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths by Wednesday morning. The conditions may cause minor disruption, particularly injury risks due to slips and falls.

What should you do to stay safe?

The Met Office advises people to take precautions to stay safe during icy weather. Plan to leave the house earlier than usual to avoid rushing and reduce the risk of accidents.

For walking or cycling journeys, consider using routes along main roads, which are more likely to be treated and less slippery.

If driving, check road conditions, bus, and train timetables beforehand to avoid delays. Adjust travel plans if necessary.

The Met Office also recommends keeping an eye on updated weather forecasts, as warnings can change.

Why a yellow warning?

A yellow warning indicates a medium likelihood and low impact. While the likelihood of icy conditions is high, widespread severe disruption is unlikely.

The warning was issued at 09:59 on Tuesday 6th January.
