A South Hams resident has raised the alarm over claims of widespread courier fraud affecting several villages and towns across the area.

Luke Jones, who lives in Loddiswell, has collated evidence of over 100 missing parcels that courier firm Evri allegedly marked as delivered, despite being reported undelivered by their intended recipients.

Mr Jones said the issue has affected communities in Loddiswell, Aveton Gifford, Kingsbridge, Modbury, Churchstow and surrounding areas.

“What started as a few missing parcels has uncovered a mountain of evidence pointing toward organised courier fraud across the South Hams,” Mr Jones said.

“We have now verified over 100 individual cases where residents have been victimised, including supposed midnight delivery sprees and identical fraudulent photos being sent to dozens of different homes.

“This isn’t just a failure of service; it is a systematic betrayal of trust that is costing our community thousands of pounds.”

Allegations include doctored delivery photos

According to Mr Jones, recurring patterns have emerged among the cases he has gathered, including fraudulent delivery photos. He claims these include images of the same door being used multiple times, entirely black screens instead of clear images, and records stating packages were left in porches when none existed.

He said anyone affected can report their case using crime reference number 50260022372 via Devon & Cornwall Police.

Evri responded to the allegations with a statement apologising for delivery issues in the area and confirming action against a specific driver.

The firm said: “Following an investigation with our delivery partner in the area, we can confirm that the driver in question will no longer be delivering on behalf of Evri.

“Anyone still requiring help regarding their delivery can get in touch with our dedicated customer service team.”

Police investigations underway

Devon & Cornwall Police said they are investigating reports of delivery-related theft in Kingsbridge, Loddiswell and neighbouring villages.

A spokesperson said, “We are currently investigating the reports received. Anybody who believes they may also have been a victim of such a theft, who has not yet spoken to police, is asked to report it via 101 or the force website. Investigating officers will then make contact in due course.”

The missing parcels could also create challenges for businesses that have sent goods via Evri, as customers expecting deliveries may demand refunds or compensation directly from them.

Evri says it achieved an average star rating of 4.6 out of 5 this year and that most customers rate their couriers highly.
