Man dies after Ottery St Mary pub altercation
A 67-year-old local man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries
A man has died in hospital following an altercation in Ottery St Mary earlier this month, prompting detectives to appeal for information as their investigation continues.
Police were called at around 10.15pm on Sunday 2 November to The Kings Arms, after reports of a disturbance involving a group of people in the pub’s courtyard.
A 67-year-old local man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officers have now confirmed that he sadly died on 17 November.
His next of kin have been informed.
As part of the investigation, five local men have been arrested and released on police bail until February 2026 while enquiries continue:
- A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm
- A 33-year-old man and a 47-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and violent disorder
- A 31-year-old man and a 49-year-old man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder
Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any relevant information or footage, to contact police as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
