Man arrested and bailed after racist incident in Kingsbridge

Police say the arrest relates to an incident on Tuesday 20th January on Mill Street

Police say a man has been arrested after an alleged racist incident in Kingsbridge .

It comes after a business owner said they were considering closing because repeated racist incidents.

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage and affray and released on police bail.

It relates to an incident on Tuesday 20th January on Mill Street, Kingsbridge at around 10pm.

Kingsbridge Police have also released a statement in a post on Facebook:

"There is an ongoing investigation into a racist incident in town that I know many of you are aware of, and I can see we’ve been asked to comment.

"So here it is, and I’m sure no one will be surprised by the Police’s stance on this: it should go without saying that we as the Police detest racism.

"It has no place in this day and age.

"The person believed responsible has been arrested and will be dealt with in due course.

"While the investigation continues, I can’t share specific details, but please be assured that they will have stringent conditions on them in order to protect the victim, the public and the investigation itself.

"If you are a witness to the incident on Tuesday 20th January 2026, Mill Street, Kingsbridge approximately 22:00, please do let us know. Your evidence could help enormously in this case.

"If you or anyone you know is affected by racism or other discrimination within Devon and Cornwall, please do speak to us, you will be heard."
