Three fire engines and a water bowser have been tackling a fire to a large camper van, on the M5 northbound, between junctions 29 and 28.

On arrival, at 1.40am, crews confirmed this vehicle was well alight on the hard shoulder.

Both carriageways of the motorway were closed, to allow crews to put out the fire.

The fire started within the engine of the camper van and the vehicle was completely destroyed.

The cause was accidental.

The southbound carriageway has re-opened, although one lane northbound is still closed, but there are no reported delays.
