Hundreds of Chagford properties advised to boil tap water after burst water main
South West Water said they are 'updating affected customers regularly on the situation'
Hundreds of properties in the Chagford area of Devon are being advised to boil their tap water.
South West Water says it's a precautionary measure whilst they undertake checks on the water supply following the repair of a burst water main.
South West Water said (Monday 10 August 2026):
“We are advising approximately 900 properties in the area of Chagford to boil their tap water. This is a precautionary measure whilst we undertake the necessary checks on the water supply following the complex repair of a burst water main.
"We are communicating directly with affected customers and updating them regularly on the situation. A bottled water station is available at Chagford Primary School (TQ13 8BZ) and we have delivered bottled water to our priority customers.
"We can’t say how long the boil water notice will be in place, but it can usually be lifted after 2 days of clear results and we therefore expect that customers will be able to use their supplies as normal later this week.
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working hard to resolve the issues as quickly as possible."
