Support is being highlighted for those living in Teignbridge who rely on heating oil to keep their homes warm.

It says the government-funded Crisis and Resilience Fund, which it administers, can help eligible low-income households.

Teignbridge District Council’s Executive Member for Economy, Estates and Major Projects, Councillor David Palethorpe, said: "Many rural households use heating oil to keep warm. With prices rising, we want to make sure people know that help is available.

“Unlike gas and electricity customers, people who use heating oil are not protected by the energy price cap. A sudden price rise can leave families with a large, unexpected bill.

"If you are worried about heating costs this winter, please check if you can get help. Support is available, and we do not want anyone to miss out."

He added: "Many households are facing rising heating oil prices due to the conflict in the Middle East. Unlike gas and electricity customers, households that use heating oil are not protected by the energy price cap.

"Support is available to Teignbridge residents who are on a low income or receive means-tested benefits. The council will look at each household's needs. This includes difficulty paying heating bills, health conditions, disability, children living at home and whether the home is hard to heat."
