A month long energy-saving exhibition has opened in Exmouth - highlighting those from across Devon who are already leading the way.

Artist Polly Meyrick has been researching the stories of local energy saving heroes as part of the 'We Are All People Of Power' exhibition.

Ms Meyrick said: “I had this conversation over the term 'energy transition' being quite technical and it can be quite hard to communicate.

“I came in and was like 'how can I communicate the amazing things are that happening in Devon?’

“What I'm really passionate about in my work is using portraits as way of telling the human stories behind these projects.

"I spent time humanising data and telling local, positive stories as I think especially with these projects that relate to climate and energy - they can be quite overwhelming and often we're focused on 'oh no, we need to do all these things' - but when you look into it there's so much amazing positive stuff that's happening."

During the opening, she said: “his free exhibition shares the local, human stories behind the transition to renewable energy, highlighting how community energy can create jobs, support local projects, and help people struggling with rising energy costs."

Alongside the artwork, visitors will be able to view the findings from retrofit audits carried out on four Exmouth “archetype” homes.

Zoey Cooper, Climate Officer at Exmouth Town Council, said: "These reports offer practical insight for anyone wondering how their own home could be made more energy efficient. Information on funding and grants, renewable energy, green tariffs, and community energy will also be available throughout the month."

The exhibition will conclude with a free evening film screening and talk on 26 February from 6–8pm, also at Exmouth Library.

The short film We Are All People Of Power introduces the people featured in the portraits, as well as the artist behind the project. The evening will also include talks from energy experts and Exmouth residents who have already made energy-saving improvements to their homes, sharing what they spent and how much they are now saving. Local energy experts ECOE Advice will be on hand to offer guidance and support.
