Man suffers serious head injury after South Molton assault

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and footage after a man was seriously assaulted at a South Molton public house.

Officers were called after a reported assault within The Coaching Inn in Queen Street just after 9pm on Saturday (11 October).

A man had been punched in the face by another man causing him to fall to the ground and sustain a serious head injury.

The victim, a local man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A man in his 20s from South Molton was arrested on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent. He remains in custody.

Detectives are investigating the incident and seeking witnesses or anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Michelle Westlake said: “Enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone who was in the premises and witnessed the incident to come forward to assist with our investigation.

"We would be keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on their mobile phone or anyone else with information about what took place.

“I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and the public will see an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue.”
