Crews tackle deliberate fire in Chudleigh
The derelict building fire is believed to have started deliberately but has now been extinguished
Firefighters from three stations successfully extinguished a blaze at a derelict building in Chudleigh late last night (2nd June 2026).
The fire broke out at approximately 10.44pm, prompting Fire Control to mobilise teams from Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, and Middlemoor to the scene.
Upon their arrival, the crews found the building, measuring roughly 10 metres by 20 metres, engulfed in flames.
Efforts to control the fire involved the use of various equipment, including hose reel jets and water from a hydrant.
By 1.31am this morning (3rd June 2026), the fire was fully extinguished, but the building sustained 100% damage.
According to the latest reports, it is believed the fire was started deliberately.
The National Grid attended to ensure the electricity connection was safely isolated during the incident.
The fire safety department is urging businesses to review their fire prevention measures to avoid deliberate fires in the future.
