Police in Plymouth are seeking assistance to identify a witness as part of an investigation into a serious sexual assault that was reported last month.

The incident is reported to have taken place at around 3am on 12th September 2025.

A woman was walking along New George Street when she was approached by an unknown man.

Officers report how the suspect engaged her in conversation and attempted to pull her top down.

He then followed her, dragged her to the ground, and put his hand over her mouth.

Her scream alerted a female passer-by, causing the suspect to flee.

The passer-by, a woman called Sophia in her 20s, gave the victim her jacket and walked her home.

Sophia mentioned that she had just finished work before helping the victim.

Police are keen to speak with Sophia as part of their ongoing investigation.

If you can help identify Sophia or are the witness, you are urged to contact police on 101 or via their website, quoting 50260021188.
