Man jailed for 11 years after brutal domestic assault in Workington
Patrick Webster attacked his partner, leaving her with severe injuries
A Workington man has been jailed for 11 years after assaulting his partner while she slept, leaving her with serious injuries.
Patrick Webster, 69, of Fisher Street, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and witness intimidation following his trial at Carlisle Crown Court in September.
The assault occurred in the early hours of 20th December 2025 at a caravan site on the west Cumbrian coast. The victim awoke to Webster dragging her from the bed by her hair before punching her repeatedly.
Despite severe pain, she managed to escape and call for help. Hospital staff found she had suffered six broken ribs and a lacerated spleen.
Webster was arrested but remained silent during questioning and continued to harass the victim while on bail, threatening her if she testified against him.
Following his conviction, Detective Inspector Tom Windridge commented on the significant sentence: "I hope that this result, and the courage of the survivor, serve as an inspiration to other survivors to come forward and report offences."
