A man has been arrested for a public order offence after a 15-hour police stand-off at an address in Ulverston.

Emergency services were called out to Dale Street just after 7.30pm last night (18 June) following reports a man was in significant distress inside a property.

Officers say they believed the man had a firearm.

A substance, believed to be noxious gas, was also being released from inside.

People in the area were evacuated from their homes.

At around 10.35am, the suspect walked out of the property and handed himself into police.

He had minor injuries to his hands/arms.

A BB gun was also found at the scene.

Police say those who were evacuated will be able to return to their homes after safety checks are completed and the gas is dealt with.
