There are calls for action to improve safety on the A684 at the M6 Junction 37 near Kendal, after a fatal crash claimed the lives of Rita Thomas and Christine Dale in 2024.

A coroner has found that several serious crashes have happened at the same spot, and says the current road layout and speed limit could put drivers at greater risk

The report urges National Highways to make urgent changes to stop more deaths happening.

A Spokesperson for National Highways said:

“Our deepest sympathies remain with the loved ones of Rita Thomas and Christine Dale. We will review the Coroner’s report and respond within the deadline.”
