Plans for a new takeaway and house of multiple occupancy (HMO) in Barrow have been given the go-ahead.

Westmorland and Furness Council has approved plans from Ian Mock to transform the empty retail unit at 52 Dalton Road into a hot food takeaway and convert the upper floors of 54-56 Dalton Road into a four-bedroom HMO.

The empty shop was formerly a Boots Pharmacy which closed its doors in October 2019.

According to planning documents, the HMO will consist of four en-suite bedrooms, a kitchen/dining area and a living room.

The proposed takeaway could provide four full-time and four part-time jobs, according to planning documents.

Plans state 10 bicycle spaces will be provided and add: ā€œThe application site is located in close proximity to all local amenities and transport links with easy access by vehicle and by foot.ā€

The roof covering is proposed to be replaced with like-for-like fibre cement slates with the external walls re-rendered in a clean white smooth render finish, plans state.

A design and access statement says: ā€œThe overall scheme has provided the ideal opportunity to refresh and improve the external appearance of the buildings.ā€

The planning application was approved on June 27.
