A man has denied killing a pensioner and causing serious injury to her grandchild by driving a motorcycle dangerously in Cleator Moor.

Kieran Joseph Yorke, 22, faces criminal charges following a collision at Ennerdale Road on 26 May.

Gillian Livingstone, a 75-year-old great-grandmother, died at the scene. Her grandchild suffered a serious head injury and was kept in hospital in a “stable” condition.

Yorke appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this afternoon (26 June) to face charges of causing death by dangerous driving and causing injury by dangerous driving.

During the 40-minute crown court hearing in front of Judge Michael Fanning, Yorke pleaded not guilty to each of those two allegations.

Wearing a grey sports T-shirt and shorts, he also spoke from the dock to confirm his name and date of birth.

A trial will now be held at the crown court in July 2027.

In the meantime Yorke, of Workington, remains on conditional bail.

A Cumbria police spokesman confirmed that two other men — aged 22 and 23 — who were also arrested after the incident, remain on bail pending further enquiries.
