Man arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty offences in Carlisle

Police have arrested a man this afternoon, after numerous reports from the public regarding the death of cats in the Richmond Green area of Carlisle.

A 17 year-old man, from Carlisle, has been arrested on suspicion of offences related to animal cruelty, linked to recent reports and remains in police custody.

A lurcher type dog has also been seized from an address in Carlisle.

The arrest comes after reports of three separate cat deaths in the Richmond Green and Raffles area of Carlisle and the cats are suspected to have been attacked by dogs.

Police have received several calls regarding the same incidents, after a subsequent social media post.

Officers have increased their presence in the area, as enquiries continue and to provide reassurance.
