Man arrested and 50 vehicles stopped during Workington road safety operation

Four traffic offence reports, five drug wipes and five breath tests were also made

50 vehicles were stopped, as well as one arrest made yesterday (1st September) during an operation targeting road safety in Workington.

Officers from Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing team, and operation support in two parts of Workington were in place to assess speeding vehicles and safety checks.

During the safety checks, 50 vehicles were stopped, four traffic offence reports were conducted, as well as five drug wipes and five breathe tests.

A 25-year-old man from Workington was arrested on Salterbeck Road on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

The man has been released under investigation.

Sergeant Neil McKinnell from the Allerdale Neighbourhood Policing Team said “Road safety is a priority for our communities, and this operation is part of our ongoing efforts to target those putting others at risk on our roads.

“Targeting drink and drug drivers and anti-social driving is not just for officers, but something we can all be active about reporting dangerous drivers putting the lives of road users at risk."
